Affiliate marketing is not a new concept. But it is one that presents interesting challenges. Consider this: What sort of online business is best for you. If you have the resources and can afford to purchase domain names and pay the costs of website hosting, then this approach may be better for you. If you were in the same leaky boat that I was in, then a business that requires limited personal investment, may be a better choice.
Affiliate marketing works like this:
1. Find a retailer that encourages affiliate relationships. This can be relatively easy. You can check out some of the biggies like Amazon and Tiger Direct to name a few. I chose Clickbank (not a household name) because of their track record of honest business dealings. Clickbank is convenient in that they offer electronic books, How-To-Do (whatever you can think of) and some computer software. These products are delivered electronically as soon as the customer provides a valid credit card. You, as an affiliate, never handle or ship a product, and you have no direct contact with the customer. Clickbank will send you checks as sales are made.
2. Find a product. This step is a little more complicated. Choosing a product (electronic book or e-book) that is selling requires some research on your part. Of course, you can select products of which you have some personal interest and knowledge--just like I did. As time goes on you will discover whether you made the correct choices. Fortunately you have not invested a dime so all you are out is a little time. But help is just a click away.
3. Write articles.Once you have a product and the coded link to Clickbank, you may elect to use Google Adwords or similar Pay-Per-Click ads. Again, if you can afford this method, then go for it. I strongly recommend Article Marketing as the method to get your message to the public. Writing and posting articles is a free-of-charge activity. But I will not tell you this method should be attempted without some formal training. Although I have been a technical writer for many years, I did not have a clue as to handling article marketing without help.
After a couple of months at seeing a column of zeros in my Clickbank account, I begrudgingly decided I could use some help. I bought an e-book at full retail price that slowly but surely turned my efforts in a positive direction. The cost to me was small compared to what I am earning now!
In the very beginning I decided that I wanted to be a part of Internet marketing but I soon learned that more than 90% of the get-rich-quick offers I got were outright fraudulent. I was reluctant to spend another cent until I had some assurance that what I was buying was, in fact, a legitimate, beneficial product for me.
